A new years thought – My God delights in me.
That look that we long to see on our children’s faces on Christmas morning – the wonder, the joy, the excitement, the awe.
That sound of innocent laughter. So infectious, lifting the soul, even the most hardened of spirits, compelling them to smile at the sound of a young child’s delight.
That boundless energy and enthusiasm that exudes from our children. Their endless questions and thirst for knowledge.
God desires all that and more for His children.
Every good and perfect gift comes from above. My God is not terrible. My God is not just wrath waiting to be unleashed.
My God is the ultimate parent. He embodies love. He defines love. Without Him, there is no concept of perfect love.
He loves us all – each of His children. Each uniquely. No favoritism. No preference on the color of skin, the gender, the orientation, the political affiliation or denomination.
We are the sons and daughters of God. We are equal in His sight.
Oh, how He loves me!
I can break His heart.
I can run from His arms.
I can push Him away.
Yet, He is never far and yes, He continues still to love me.
Think of the father of the returning prodigal child. Was there vengeance and disapproval? No, their was unconditional love and acceptance. A father running, full of compassion, across a field and lifting his lost child up in a warm embrace and gentle kiss.
Joy over a new birth. Delight over the lost being found.
He loves me. He delights in me. He rejoices over me in goodness.
Despite my failings and short comings, He loves me.
A New Year Resolution: May I continue to strive to be that parent to my children.
